Local 3392s History

Local 3392 was formed on August 1, 1991 with 35 charter members. The union was started to protect it's members from a new policy the city was going to enforce. Each employee of the city was going to be required to provide proof of there current credit history. Those individuals who had poor credit could face disciplinary action or termination under the new policy. The firefighters banded together and formed a union to protest and protect its members rights which resulted in a reversal of the cities policy.

Today the union continues to fight for the rights of its members. Most of our efforts have been concentrated at the state capital trying to improve firefighter benefits.  We pride ourselves on a good working relationship with both our State Senator and State Rep. Both of these elected officials have given us there full support on issues like raising retirement multipliers, drop plan options, collective bargaining, and many other issues important to firefighters around the state.

On the local scene we sponsor and support many charities. Each year in March we collect donations for the Special Olympics. August is when we hold the Night Glow Ball Golf Tournament benefiting Arkansas Children's Hospital's Camp Sunshine. Christmas is also a special time of year when we  provide Christmas gifts and dinner to area families. Families are adopted and receive the special delivery in true fire department style with lights and sirens a blaze. Seeing the expressions on the children's faces as firefighters start unloading the ladder truck and ambulances with multiple gifts is a rewarding experience that everyone enjoys. It's important for us to recognize that while we are a labor union we also have to give back to community that's supports us and these yearly events give us that opportunity.
